KISSES TO REMEMBER Give me a kiss before you leave me More Artful Romance |
|
Kissing is a learned behaviour and considered a largely symbolic gesture in different cultures, to express affection, close acquaintance, salutations or subordination. The physical sensations are often of primary importance in romantic and sexual kissing which usually take longer. It is interesting to know that a 1-minute kiss burns about 26 calories. The longest recorded kiss took place in Tel Aviv, Israel, on April 5, 1999, between Karmit Tsubera and Dror Orpaz. It lasted 30 hours and 45 minutes (Wikipedia Article on Kiss). One episode of Ricki Lake TV talkshow, January 28, 2002, is claimed to include a kiss that took 30 hours, 59 minutes and 27 seconds (http://www.kissingbooth.com/kissingfacts.htm). The act of kissing has been seen in other primates. Canadian porcupines kiss one another on the lips.
** In the gospels, Judas betrayed
Jesus with a kiss, a subversive use
of the kiss, as it is a symbol of affection.
** In the fairytale Sleeping Beauty, the
Greek myth of Pygmalion and Galatea,
and the movie Matrix, a romantic
kiss is used to awaken or breathe life into a loved one.
** In Lady and the Tramp, while
Lady and Tramp were both eating the end of a noodle at the same time, their
lips end up touching.
** In the Frog Prince fairytale,
a male is transformed from frog to the original prince by a
romantic kiss.
The first kiss ever shown in a movie was in 1896. The movie, was called The Kiss. Before and after that, kissing has been the subject of many art works (see the ending of Cinema Paradiso). Here are some kisses to remember (click on images to see a larger version):
